Gold & Silver for Shelley & Kristan in St Moritz World Cup 7

Kristan Bromley took the silver medal in the 7th round of the men's world cup in St Moritz, Switzerland. After a controversial start to the race, which saw Kristan's Run 1 lead cancelled by the FIBT jury, Bromley raced against both his competitors and the sun to take Silver just 0.07 sec behind Eric Bernotas of the USA.

The first heat of the race was cancelled after protests by the German and Canadian teams were successful after three athletes had problems on the start after Kristan and Martins Dukurs of Latvia had already performed their opening runs.

"This as a great performance for us today but I am very angry and disappointed with the decision by the FIBT jury to cancel heat one. I never got the chance to defend my 18/100ths of a second lead from run one. Furthermore I had to start the 2nd heat first which was a huge disadvantage. All the teams know that at around 1030am the sun hits the track and the track gets faster for each subsequent slider. Today I felt I was not only battling against the other sliders but also the sun and the jury. Today's result is bitter sweet. It is my best performance of the season but it was also disappointing to lose a win under such circumstances. However I congratulate Eric Bernotas for his win. He raced great today and took his opportunity"

In the afternoon Shelley Rudman made up for Bromley's disappointment by smashing the track record to claim her second World Cup gold medal of the season. Shelley beat World Cup leader Melissa Hollingsworth to keep her title hopes alive.
